WHAT IS DISNEY LORCANA?

Disney Lorcana is a trading card game (TCG) released by Ravensburger in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company in August 2023. It is Ravensburger's first trading card game and brings together Disney's century of storytelling with Ravensburger's gaming expertise.

Disney Lorcana is set in an enchanted realm of imagination in a distant dimension called Lorcana. At the center of this realm is the Great Illuminary, a place housing endless marvels where colorful story stars (fragments of Disney stories) are captured, and an immense reservoir of magical ink exists, which is the source of Lorcana's power. A figure called the Curator created these wonders and sought to collect and reimagine stories. By pairing the light of story stars with magical ink on the pages of a lorebook, the Curator was able to create glimmers, which are countless versions of Disney characters and items summoned in this world. The Curator called imaginative apprentices to help, naming them Illumineers. Players become Illumineers who wield magical inks to summon these glimmers – Disney characters appearing in both familiar and fantastic new ways.

The goal of Disney Lorcana is to be the first player to gain 20 or more lore. Players achieve this by playing cards and sending their character glimmers on quests. Along the way, players can also challenge opposing characters to hinder their opponents.

A Disney Lorcana deck consists of at least 60 cards and can include a mix of characters, actions, and items. More recently, location cards have also been introduced. Players build their own decks before the game starts, and decks are not mixed. A deck can contain cards of up to two ink types from the six magical ink types: Amber (defense and recovery), Amethyst (game-changing spells and abilities), Emerald (strategic plays), Ruby (attacks and offensive strategies), Sapphire (card draw and resource management), and Steel (defenses and resilient characters). A deck cannot contain more than four cards with the same full name.

Disney Lorcana offers a variety of products, including starter decks which are ready-to-play 60-card decks featuring two inks, booster packs containing 12 randomized cards, the Illumineer's Trove which includes storage and deck boxes, booster packs, damage counters, and a player's guide, and gift sets containing foil cards and booster packs. Various accessories like card sleeves, deck boxes, playmats, and card portfolios (also known as lorebooks) are also available to protect and organize collections. The player's guide in the Illumineer's Trove acts as a visual guide to the cards in a specific set and offers deckbuilding tips and game strategies.

Disney Lorcana features a robust organized play program that offers opportunities for players to connect, trade, and compete at friendly local game stores. This includes the Disney Lorcana League, a casual play program emphasizing fun and community over competition, where players earn points for participation and various Disney Lorcana-related activities. Prizes such as promo cards, pins, and lore counters are awarded to participants. There is also a more competitive event circuit called the Disney Lorcana Challenge, consisting of tournaments and competitions.

Disney Lorcana is designed to be welcoming and engaging for casual players or those new to trading card games, while also offering enough strategic depth for more competitive play.
