What are the Six Ink Types?
There are six different ink types in the game of Disney Lorcana, each with its own distinct flavor and focus. When building a deck, you can choose to play with cards from either one or two of these ink types. Selecting inks that complement each other and support your strategy is key to increasing your deck's effectiveness. Here are the six ink types and their associated traits based on the sources:
Amber: This ink type features characters and spells that focus on defense and recovery. One example of an Amber card highlighted in the Player's Guide for The First Chapter is the song "Be Our Guest," which helps you find important character cards in your deck. Starter decks for The First Chapter included an Amber and Amethyst combination. More recent starter decks, like those for Into the Inklands, feature Amber paired with Emerald.
Amethyst: Amethyst focuses on spells and abilities that can change the course of the game. Many Amethyst cards have the ability to exert opposing characters, helping you control the board by ensuring your opponent has characters you can challenge each turn. Starter decks for The First Chapter included an Amber and Amethyst combination.
Emerald: This ink type includes characters and abilities that focus on strategic plays. Starter decks for The First Chapter featured an Emerald and Ruby combination, while Into the Inklands starter decks combine Amber and Emerald.
Ruby: Ruby cards focus on attacks and offensive strategies. The starter decks for The First Chapter included an Emerald and Ruby pairing, and more recently, Into the Inklands starter decks feature a Ruby and Sapphire combination. The first dual-ink card to be released, Belle, Mechanic Extraordinaire, will be part Sapphire and Ruby ink types.
Sapphire: Sapphire provides card draw and resource management abilities. It is considered a strong choice if you want to play a deck with more high-cost character cards that have powerful abilities or high Strength {S} and Willpower {W}, as Sapphire cards can help you build up your inkwell quickly and play higher-cost cards earlier in the game. Mickey Mouse – Detective is an example of a Sapphire card that helps you gain more ink. Starter decks for The First Chapter featured a Sapphire and Steel combination, and Into the Inklands starter decks include a Ruby and Sapphire pairing.
Steel: Steel is focused on defenses and resilient characters. The starter decks for The First Chapter included a Sapphire and Steel combination.
The ink type of a card is indicated by a specific symbol and a colored band behind the card's name. This ink type is important for deckbuilding and can be referenced by card rules. When constructing a deck for a tournament, you must adhere to the rule of using only one or two ink types.
